Tailgating with Pets – Yay or Nay?

Written by S&P

Everyone, well most everyone, loves animals. And a lot of those people have pets. There are the standard pets like dogs, cats, birds, Komodo dragons, and fish and then the mix up of out of the ordinary pets. It was during a brunch on a beautiful Sunday afternoon that I saw an insane amount of people hanging out with their dogs at bars and restaurants that I thought to myself, how many people tailgate (or would love to tailgate) with their pets?

To be honest, I have hardly ever seen people tailgating with their pets. I mean, maybe one time, but that is me guessing. I’ve seen more people hanging out with their pets, usually dogs, on weekend afternoon drinking binges way more than I have seen people tailgating with their furry (or non-furry) pets. But why? I would think, especially if you have a dog, that a tailgate would be a great place to take your pet. You can let them run around and catch balls and frisbees, let them pee on another tailgaters stuff, and give them a good pet and plenty of love when you are sitting down waiting to play your favorite tailgate game. On top of that, I feel like they are a great way to break the ice with the tailgate around you full of beautiful guys or girls that you just couldn’t figure out a way to mix your groups.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t expect to see someone carrying a fish in a little bowl around a tailgate, but I would have thought I would have seen more pets at the tailgates I have been at. Could this be because most of these tailgaters have tickets to the game and obviously the pets can’t come into the stadium? However, especially in Philadelphia (where most of my tailgating experience comes from) there are plenty of people who come just to tailgate and hang out and don’t go into the stadium to watch the game. I would think this person would be a lot like your weekend day drinker who brings their dog to the bar.

This ladies and gentleman is where I would love to have you comment and give me the information and knowledge I need to understand why I am just not seeing pets at tailgates. This is the kind of thing that keeps me up at night and I would love nothing more than the fans of The TailG8 to provide me with their reasonings and experience to help lull me back to sleep.

Thanks all and summer is right around the corner, so tailgate on!
